What should I expect when requesting an appointment?

After completing the form at this link, you will be sent an email requesting you log onto a portal that we will use for secure communication. On your personal portal you will be asked to complete some intake information, so that we can begin to provide you with the best possible care in our first session.

What can I expect in my first appointment?

You are only going to get the most out of treatment if you are working with someone you truly feel comfortable with. During our first session, we will discuss any questions or concerns you have in regard to your treatment, review informed consent, and determine if you and your therapist are the best fit for each other.

Your comfort and growth are the most important aspects of treatment. If you do not feel comfortable, you will not walk away empty handed. As providers who have been in the field for over a decade, we have access to referral networks you may not. You will be provided with referrals for providers in your area that will best meet your needs, ones that are actually accepting clients, not just a list from Google. If needed, recommendations on how to navigate the mental health system will also be provided, so that you are linked to someone that can best support you in your personal growth.

Why choose online therapy?

Studies have shown that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy, and in some cases, it has provided superior outcomes to in-person therapy. In addition to its effectiveness, online therapy also allows for:

  • Convenience: Less wait times, no commute
  • Sessions in an environment you feel comfortable in
  • Access to specialists outside of your geographic location
  • Reduced risk of transmitting or contracting communicable diseases

What do I need for online therapy sessions?

You will need access to a smart phone or computer with camera access and a strong internet connection. You will receive a link to join the secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy room prior to session.

What can I expect as a parent whose child is in therapy?

We will be in contact with you in regards to your child’s safety and emotional growth. During our first session we will discuss limits of confidentiality and create a plan of how we will work together to assist your child / adolescent in continued growth. Please be advised that if parents are separated, a court order of custody MUST be provided to us before our scheduled intake session.

Are you available after hours?

Tree of Life Counseling Center’s services are not intended to be utilized as a crisis response.

Phone calls will be answered and messages returned Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For voicemails and secure messages, you can expect a response within 24 hours on weekdays, and 72 hours on weekends and holidays. Be aware that there may be times when I am unable to receive or respond to messages, such as after business hours, when out of cellular range or out of town.

This is not because I do not want to be involved in your treatment, but that I do not want to delay treatment in the case of emergency.

If you are ever experiencing an emergency, including a mental health crisis, please call 988, 911, or go to your nearest emergency room immediately. After receiving immediate assistance, please have the hospital reach out to your provider with relevant medical information so that Tree of Life Counseling Center may continue to support you after your discharge.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged a missed session fee. Missed appointments will be charged full session fee, as this time has been reserved specifically to meet your needs.

By not canceling your appointment, you are agreeing to a full session fee. Your card on file will be charged on the day services should have been rendered.
