Living in a body of culture as a Black, indigenous, or person of color in white spaces, while navigating systems, can feel like an uphill battle.

You may notice racism in action within the workplace, within social settings or within the media. Once you see it, you can’t un-see it! This can take the form of microaggressions such as tone policing as well as direct statements and actions aimed at communicating negative attitudes and prejudice towards yourself and those you love.

The fact is, the systems we live and navigate today are steeped in white supremacy, prejudice, and stigmatization, creating unique challenges for marginalized bodies, identities, and communities. The burdens of these systems may be showing up in your life as feelings of:

  • Anger

  • Frustration

  • Fears about the future

  • Confusion about what is reality and what is not

  • Powerlessness

  • Difficulty with staying present within your body when experiencing stress

  • Physical symptoms: feeling tired all the time, feeling on edge, or body aches & pains

Your experiences as a Body of Culture / BIPoC are real and valid. Don’t let anyone (not even yourself) tell you differently.

You may have experienced people in white bodies (even those calling themselves “culturally competent” or “allies”) telling you what you are or are not experiencing. This is ongoing trauma. As therapists who have been committed to social justice work for over a decade, we believe that cultural competence is so much more than just an acknowledgment of history or privilege. It is an ongoing process of building awareness of the ways that racial identity impacts your experience in the world, while also actively working to dismantle the systems that prevent intergenerational healing, racial justice, and wellness in BIPOC communities.

We understand some of the challenges that marginalized and oppressed groups face and the feelings of being overwhelmed by being forced to create space for self within these systems.

In therapy for Bodies of Culture / BIPoC, you’ll find a safe space to explore your feelings surrounding the racial trauma you have experienced and receive the culturally responsive, social justice-informed support you deserve.

Things we can work on together:

  • Processing trauma and discrimination

  • Navigating family systems that have not yet been willing to acknowledge the effects of racism

  • Learning how to have difficult conversation about race, through your own healing

  • Understanding the history and systems that influence your experience

  • Identifying not only your cultural wounding but your cultural strengths as well

  • Healing intergenerational trauma & Historical Trauma

  • Identifying how not only trauma, but resiliency been passed down to you and stored within your body

  • Setting and achieving goals

  • Embodying your strengths as a BIPOC, friend, and partner

  • Empowering you to be proud of your identity

  • How to truly be an ally and create a space of safety for your BIPOC community

...or anything else that’s holding you back from the freedom and fulfillment you truly deserve.

Are you a member of the BIPoC community / a body of culture who also identifies as LGBTQIA+, is navigating anxiety or big life changes, or has job-related stress?

We’re here to help with that too.

Validation. Respect. Understanding.
